Liver cells and GelXA LAMININK 111
A drug response experiment was conducted on liver tissue models using GelXA LAMININK 111 for the co-culture of HEPG2 and LX2 cells. The bioprinted liver tissue constructs were dosed at Day 0 with different concentrations of a toxic reagent to determine cytotoxicity of the cells over a period of 7 days. Even though the cells demonstrated high cytotoxicity levels after 2 days, they were able to recover from the introduction of the reagent after 5 days.
GELXA LAMININKs in action
Direct functional analysis of the liver tissue model was conducted with histological analysis through immunohistochemical imaging. The collagen type I antibody was used to evaluate the production of collagen type I by the stellate cells in bioprinted co-culture constructs (left image), while the ABCC2 antibody helped to evaluate the transporter multidrug resistance protein 2 (MRP2) in hepatocytes (right image).
