Evaluating Liver Toxicity in Bioprinted Mini Livers
The development of a functional 3D liver model requires synergy of multiple liver-specific cells to create a physiologically relevant microenvironment. CELLINK’s BIO X™ provides an easy-to-use platform to 3D bioprint in vitro liver models in a high-throughput manner. We introduced a method of co-culturing HepG2 cells with non-hepatic HUVEC cells embedded in collagen to generate mini livers. We recommend this liver model for high-throughput drug screening or for studying drug-induced liver injuries (DILI).
Explore how our mini livers showed decreased albumin protein expression and increased ALT/AST activity in response to two different drugs, acetaminophen and flutamide, similar to the reactions observed in native hepatic tissue.
